Coffee Therapy — the play

SCENE 12
DARNELL is asleep on the couch. He wakes. He looks at the time.

DARNELL
Shit. I’m gonna be late for the test.
He sees the cake tin and grabs the bong, still out from the night before. Groggily, he fills the bowl, lights it, and takes a hit.
The ROOMMATE enters.

ROOMMATE
What are you doing?

DARNELL
What does it look like I’m doing?

ROOMMATE
It’s nine o’clock. I thought you said you had a test.

DARNELL
Romantic poetry, remember? This will help me relate.
He fills the bowl again and takes another hit.

DARNELL
Makes me more romantic.

ROOMMATE
Man, you’re crazy.

DARNELL
offering the bong
Wanna hit?

ROOMMATE
Hell no. I’ve got a class at nine-thirty and I’m still buzzed from last night.

DARNELL
exhaling smoke
I know. This makes that fuzzy feeling go away.

ROOMMATE
The only fuzzy feeling your going to get is an F.

DARNELL
Nope. I’ve got a good feeling about this one. An unfuzzy feeling.
DARNELL laughs.

ROOMMATE
I’ll bet you do.

DARNELL
I’ll pull a C at the worst.

ROOMMATE
Sure you will.

DARNELL
I only took two hits.
DARNELL grabs his books and makes a run for it.

DARNELL
exiting
I’m late!
