Coffee Therapy — the play

SCENE 18
In the coffee shop.

DARNELL
Aside
I guess that movie – or rather, my reaction to it – is what elevated my treatment from the realm of psychology to the realm of psychiatry – and a more scientific approach. Sometimes in life, it takes an episode of major depression to bring about real results.
Pause.
Hey, look at this. Here he comes now. Dr. Ross.
DR. CAL ROSS, a young man, enters the coffee shop.

DARNELL
Dr. Ross, what would you like?
DR. ROSS
Nothing, thanks. Just thought I’d drop by to see how you were doing.

DARNELL
Fine.
DARNELL makes gesture of balance with his hands.
I’m even Steven.
DR. ROSS
Any headaches? Diarrhea?

DARNELL
No. Just a little sleepiness now and then. Nothing a double shot of espresso can’t handle.
DR. ROSS
And you’re sleeping well?

DARNELL
No problem at all.
DR. ROSS
At night, I presume.

DARNELL
Sure.
DR. ROSS
Good.
