Coffee Therapy — the play

SCENE 23
SR. DR. ROSS stands and shakes hands with DARNELL

DR. ROSS
If you don’t get outa here, it’s gonna cost you another seventy-five dollars – and you can’t afford it.

DARNELL
Should I come back in a week?

DR. ROSS
How much money’s in your bank account?

DARNELL
I don’t know.

DR. ROSS
More than, or less than, fifty dollars?

DARNELL
Less.

DR. ROSS
What do you think?

DARNELL
Should I come back in a month?

DR. ROSS
Make it three.

DARNELL takes a few steps forward, indicating that he’s now outside the office. DR. ROSS exits.

DARNELL
Aside
I kept trying to get some emotional support; he wouldn’t give me any. If I really begged, he gave me bibliographies, and print-outs – stacks of information for me to throw away. He said if I really needed support, go to a free support group for manic depressives. I went to one.
